Linda, one of Patsy’s friends, had stopped by for a visit. They were chatting in the living room about various things going on in their families’ lives. JonBenet sat on her mother’s lap, listening in on the grown-up’s conversation. Patsy brought up that JonBenet had recently been in a contest.
“How did you do?” Linda asked JonBenet.
JonBenet looked up at her mom, too shy to answer. After some encouragement from Patsy, JonBenet replied with the simple answer, “I won.”
She hoped off her mother’s lap and ran outside to play. It wasn’t until later on that Linda found out that JonBenet had won the title of Little Miss Colorado.
